Cognitive ability: Number series Set 1, component A: Number of correct items. The number series test tests respondents' fluid reasoning and the ability to use abstract thought to solve novel problems. Respondents are presented with (up to) six number series. In each series there is a blank space and the respondent's task is to fill in the correct number. There are two components to this test. Component A is an initial test on the basis of which different sets of follow up challenges of different difficulty levels are administered (component B). There were two different sets of number series. Set 1 is applicable to respondents who were randomly assigned to receive Set 1 of the number series.
