Dr Alita Nandi, Associate Director at Understanding Society, will explore the prevalence of ethnic and racial harassment among ethnic minorities in Britain.
Anti-discrimination legislation has been in place since the 1960s. After four decades of this legislation what does the evidence show? Using data from Understanding Society, a longitudinal survey of a large nationally representative sample of UK residents, this talk will provide evidence on who are more likely to report experiencing ethnic and racial harassment, and where and whether events like the 2016 EU Referendum had any impact on such experiences and on fear of such experiences. This lecture will go on to discuss the impact of experiencing ethnic and racial harassment or fear of it on an individual’s mental health.
