A new edition of the COVID-19 study Wave 8 data is now available to download from the UK Data Service. Collected in March 2021, the new datafile contains results from the Covid antibody tests that were completed by over 6,600 respondents.
Blood samples were collected by participants themselves, using a testing kit from Thriva. The samples were analysed by Thriva and the results show whether antibodies were present. The test distinguishes between antibodies from a prior COVID-19 infection or from a Covid vaccination. In the datafile the variable COVG results are associated with the presence of antibodies due to natural infection, while the variable COVS are associated with antibodies from vaccination.
The results of the antibody test show that 72% of the sample tested positive for Covid antibodies. Of these, 63% had antibodies due to vaccination, 8.9% had antibodies from vaccination but had also had COVID-19. Just 0.13% of the positive sample had antibodies from COVID-19 infection alone.
