The successful candidate will provide scientific, strategic and managerial leadership as Deputy Director of Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study and deliver a programme of world class research based on the Study. This post is fully funded by ESRC to support the development and leadership of the Study.
The new Deputy Director will have research interests relevant to data collected in Understanding Society and will be responsible for scientific leadership of the development of the Study for family research. This will include leading future data collection strategies to develop the research potential of the Study, developing a programme of research on families, or innovative methodological approaches to enhancing the Study in this field, and encouraging use of the Study by the research and policy communities. The potential candidate should have a track record of research on families or in longitudinal survey methodological development. This will require bringing together topic-specific and methodological colleagues to identify the most effective approach to the Study’s development for research on family dynamics.
The Deputy Director will contribute to the work of a multidisciplinary research team, to consolidate and extend our international reputation in longitudinal methods and quantitative analysis of social science research issues.
Alongside research activities, the post-holder will have the ambition and commitment to contribute substantially to the development of this world-leading research resource and will promote the Study in a wide range of external fora. The Deputy Director will contribute to and promote innovation in collection and methodology and play an active role with partners from other longitudinal studies in promoting the value of longitudinal research.
