Data from the Credit Reference Agency (CRA) has information on the credit items held by individuals. The new dataset covers a period of twelve years, from 2009 to 2021, and includes information about the financial products taken out by an individual. CRA data includes current accounts, mortgages, personal loans, motor finance, credit cards, as well as some household bills, such as mobile phone contracts and gas and electricity bills.
Access the CRA data from the UK Data Service
The CRA dataset can be linked to the main Understanding Society dataset using the pidp variable. Cross-sectional and longitudinal weights are provided with the dataset. You can find out more about the dataset and weights in the user guide.
The CRA dataset is available as a Secure Access dataset. Data users must complete a Safer Researcher training course before applying to access these data and the dataset can only be accessed in a safe environment approved by the UK Data Service. You can find out more about using Secure Access data on the UK Data Service website.
