Introduction to Spending Study 2 app

Type: choice

Source: UKHLS

Text: We are interested in how people are getting on these days. To help us with this, we would like you to take part in an additional task. We would like to collect more information about the patterns of spending in British households across a month. This information will be valuable to researchers who are looking at how people manage their spending, and how this differs across households. It will also be used to see how British households are managing in the current economic climate, and how changes in society and the economy effect people’s behaviour. This task may also be useful to you. You will be able to see how much you’ve reported so far. To do this, we would like you to download an app onto your smartphone or tablet, and use this every day to tell us how much you spend. We also ask you to use the app to tell us of any direct debits or standing orders that come out of your bank account during the month – you will only need to do this once. The information you give us will be kept completely confidential, and your personal details will never be made available to researchers. If you participate in this additional task, we will give you 50p for each day that you use the app to let us know about your purchases that day. When you have completed the section about direct debits, you will be awarded another £1. If you use the app each day for 31 days, you will get a bonus of £10. The gift-card with the reward will be sent to you a couple of weeks after the end of the 31-day period.
