Who is the course for?
This course is available online via Open Essex (MoodleX) for those that like to study at their own pace. The course materials are taken from the latest trainer-led introductory workshop. Details of how to register for online or face-to-face workshops are listed on the Introduction to Understanding Society webpage.
Prerequisite:
Users are expected to have some basic understanding of quantitative data and some basic understanding of the software of choice.
What will I learn?
Users will work through the lecture slides and hand-on exercises made available from the latest online or face-to-face introductory workshop.
Course materials
Presentations slides, worksheets, software specific syntax files and worked-out exercises.
Software and technical requirements
Users should have access to a computer or laptop with the following software installed (depending on the chosen software):
- Stata Version 13 or higher
- R version 3.6.1 or above; R studio version 1.1.4 or higher
- SPSS version 18 or higher
- SAS version 9.4 or higher
How to sign-up to Open Essex (MoodleX)
- Go to https://open.essex.ac.uk/
- If you are at the University of Essex or at a UK Federation institution then click on “Single Sign-On” and follow the prompts to log in using your institutional login and password.
- If you are not at the University of Essex or a UK Federation, click on “Create new account” to create a Open Essex (MoodleX) account and then log in using that account.
- Once logged in these courses can be accessed via a direct link to enrol:
- SAS: SAS MoodleX
- Stata: Stata MoodleX
- SPSS: SPSS MoodleX
- R: R MoodleX
- Alternatively after you have logged in click on the “Courses” menu. Next click on “Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER)”. This will display a list of our online courses.
- Click on the course you want to enrol on and then click on “Enrol me” to enrol.
