Variable note:
The Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) is a nonverbal group test designed to measure abstract reasoning skills. It comprises five sets (A, B, C, D, E), each consisting of 12 multiple-choice questions (e.g., A1 through A12) that are arranged in order of increasing difficulty. Each question presents a visual geometric design with a missing element. The participants are provided a series of pictures/diagrams one of which represents the missing piece that completes the given pattern. The task for the participant is to choose one of these that they consider to be the missing piece. All items are presented in black ink on a white background, providing a consistent visual format.
Following Bilker et al. (2012) a subset of 9 items from RSPM can accurately predict the total score for the full test. This reduced subset of RSPM saves time during the survey administration while providing a representative measure of the 60-item test. These 9 items have been included in the Wave 10 youth self-completion questionnaire (for 10-15 year olds). The variable label reflects the specific item in the RSPM. Users interested in knowing what this specific item includes can take a look at the RSPM complete test and search for this item using the item number. The value of this variable represents the number of the response option that the participant chose.
This item is numbered E7 and the correct response is value 1.
