This is the eighth annual Income Dynamics (ID) publication. It provides information on rates of persistent low income for children, working-age adults, and pensioners in the UK. Individuals are in persistent low income if they are in relative low income for at least three out of four consecutive annual interviews. ID meets DWP’s statutory obligation to publish a measure of persistent low income for children, as set out under Section 4 of the Welfare Reform and Work Act 2016. ID also includes analysis of movements across the income distribution, including low income entry and exit rates, and statistics on how various socio-economic factors are linked to low income entry and exit.
