The British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) began with a sample of 5500 households in Great Britain
The Scottish boost sample
The Scottish boost sample of 1500 households was added
The Welsh boost sample
The Welsh boost sample of 1500 households was added
Northern Irish boost
Northern Irish boost sample of 2000 households was added
Understanding Society (2009–2010)
Understanding Society (UK Household Longitudinal Study-UKHLS) began with the General Population Sample (GPS) of 26,000 households from the UK (including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)
Ethnic Minority Boost (2009–2010)
The Ethnic Minority Boost Sample (EMBS) of around 4000 households was added
BHPS respondents
The BHPS respondents who chose to join UKHLS were added
Health and biomarker data (2010–2012)
Blood samples were given by 13,500 participants. Other measures were also collected including blood pressure, weight, height, waist measurement, body fat, grip strength and lung function.
Immigration and Ethnicity Boost Sample
A further 2500 households were added to form the Immigration and Ethnicity Boost Sample (IEMBS)
