Now thinking further about pensions, with a defined contribution pension you build up a pot of money that you can then use to provide an income in retirement. This differs from defined benefit schemes, which promise a specific income in retirement. Changes to the law mean it is now easier to withdraw cash sums from pension pots in some circumstances.
