Question label:

Consent to link smart meter data, bullet points

Question text:

We would like to add information on whether your home has a “smart meter”, and how much energy you use, to the answers you have given in this study. If you agree:

- We will send your  name and address to researchers at University College London (UCL) and they will check whether a smart meter has been fitted at your address and registered on the national smart meter system. The researchers at UCL are accredited under the Smart Energy Code which governs access to smart meter data in Great Britain. We will also send UCL the date you moved into your home, to ensure they do not collect data from before you lived there. {if HLIVED = 2}
- Your name will only be used as a record of consent so that your smart meter data can be collected. We will  not send UCL any other information about who lives at your address, or any of your answers to this study.
- We will add the information of whether your home has a smart meter to the answers you have given in this study.
- If there is a smart meter at your address, UCL will securely access the following data remotely from your smart meter(s):
- Half-hourly electricity and gas (if available) consumption readings (and any historic readings dating back to the time you moved into your home up to a maximum of 12 months) {if HLIVED = 2} up to 12 months) {if HLIVED = 1}.
- Information about your energy tariff.
- Information about what devices are connected to your smart meter(s), such as an in-home display.
- Any smart meter data UCL is able to access will be passed back to Understanding Society and connected to the answers you have given in this study.
- We will make the combined anonymous data available for academic and policy research purposes only.
- Access to the data will be restricted and controlled, to make sure that researchers use the information responsibly and safely.
- This will not affect your energy bills or the way you deal with your energy supplier in any way.

Please read this leaflet on “Smart Meter Data Linkage” for further information.

Do you give permission for us to pass your name and address and the date that you moved in {if HLIVED = 2} to UCL to get information about whether your home has a smart meter and if so to get information from it?
