Gig economy job

Variable note:
This variable was included in the initial version of the Wave 13 questionnaire to identify whether respondents use websites or digital platforms to obtain work. However, early data returns indicated a very high proportion of respondents answering “Yes,” suggesting that respondents may have interpreted the question too broadly.
As a result, the question wording was revised mid-wave and reissued under the variable gigempjob2 to improve clarity and alignment with the intended concept of “gig economy” work. Respondents interviewed in the first year of the sample (month < 13) were not asked the revised question, and their gigempjob2 values are coded as -9 (missing). Consequently, to obtain the complete Wave 13 sample, responses from both variables (gigempjob and gigempjob2) must be combined. From Wave 14 onwards, only gigempjob2 is available, so no combination of variables is required.
