Variable note:

Individual interview mode. It is an Understanding Society key variable for analysing individual response data. From wave 2 onwards telephone mode is included and from wave 7 onwards web mode is included.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, face-to-face interviewing was suspended for some periods. The specific dates are as follows.
1. From 18/03/2020 to 17/11/2021, any interviews conducted by interviewers were done over the telephone using CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview).
2. From 18/11/2021 to 13/12/2021, some face-to-face interviews were conducted using CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview).
3. From 14/12/2021 to 27/04/2022, any interviews conducted by interviewers were done over the telephone using CATI. But from 07/03/2022 face-to-face interviewing started for the new Wave 14 boost sample.

However, in some cases, the "indmode" variable was coded incorrectly when face-to-face interviewing was suspended. During these periods if indmode equals 1 (face-to-face mode) it could be because of (i) interviewer error, where they selected face-to-face instead of telephone; (ii) interviewer used CAPI script for a telephone interview by mistake or because it was a translated interview and CATI scripts hadnt been translated.
