No. employment spells since last interview

Number of employment spells since last interview. Counts the number of times respondent’s employment status was “in paid employment”. Last wave status included in the count if the employment status checking variable assumes a value of [1]. Some respondents do not report a change in employment status but a comparison of their previous and current wave employment status suggests that there was a change, either in the status itself or in the report of whether the respondent is currently in paid employment. In this case, when either last year’s employment status or current year’s employment status was employed or self-employed, it is assumed that a spell ‘in paid employment’ was completed. Inapplicable [-7] to proxy respondents and [-8] for those who were not responding adults in the last wave.
