Derived variable note:

This measure converts valid answers to 12 questions of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) to a single scale by recoding the values of individual variables from 1 to 4 to 0 to 3 and subsequently summing them, this scale produces a range of scores from 0 (indicating the least amount of distress) to 36 (indicating the greatest amount of distress). For more information see Cox, B.D et al, The Health and Lifestyle Survey. (London: Health Promotion Research Trust, 1987). Syntax file ghq_dv creates scghq1_dv, scghq2_dv.

Uses scghqa, scghqb, scghqc, scghqd, scghqe, scghqf, scghqg, scghqh, scghqi, scghqj, scghqk, scghql.
