Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at researchers and analysts who are familiar with Understanding Society and want to geographically link Understanding Society data to various UK open data sources. It aims to inform the course participants about current resources that are available for geographical data linkage, and to provide a guide on how to link them seamlessly. A case study using these geographies will also be covered in more detail.

This course is free to attend, but if you attend the in-person course you will need to pay for your own travel and accommodation.

What will I learn?

The workshop is designed for researchers and analysts already acquainted with Understanding Society. It focuses on offering hands-on experience in geographically linking Understanding Society data with various UK open data sources. Participants will actively engage in the process of data linkage, gaining practical skills in integrating Understanding Society data with external datasets. The session aims to demonstrate the practical methods and tools needed for this integration, providing a step-by-step guide to ensure a seamless linkage process. This practical approach will enable participants to apply these techniques directly to their research work.

Course materials
Participants will be provided with worksheets and syntax files to accompany the worked-out exercises.

Software and technical requirements
Participants should have access to a computer or laptop with Stata Version 13 or higher installed.
