Reviewing our questions on ethnicity and immigration

Let us know your views on this important part of the Understanding Society survey.

We are undertaking a review of the questions included in Understanding Society on the topics of ethnicity and immigration.

To start the review process, the ethnicity and immigration team have looked at the usage of questions and variables related to ethnicity and immigration in publications identified as using Understanding Society data. Through this process we have found the questions and variables which have been rarely used. For this review, we have categorised ‘rarely used’ as variables or questions that have been mentioned in at most two publications.

We would like to know if you have used particular variables, but we have missed the output, or if you have active plans to use them in future research, and if so, when. We would also be interested to know if you considered using rarely used variables, but found them not suitable for your purposes, and why.

You can send us feedback on the questions and variables that we include in the survey by downloading and completing the Excel worksheet: ethnicity and immigration consultation feedback.

In the worksheet, each row refers to a question. You don’t need to provide a response to every question. Please send your excel file to Tiago Nascimento by emailing t.nascimento@essex.ac.uk.

New content

Are there other topics relating to ethnicity and immigration that we should be covering? Are there specific new questions that you’d like to see included? As part of our review, in the autumn we will be consulting on potential new content. If you would like to take part in this consultation, please contact Tiago.
