Summary
Our social networks can benefit our health and wellbeing, and may also affect how likely we are to experience poverty, giving us access to information, resources and support. Recent research has suggested that the nature and role of social networks may differ between ethnic groups. This study aimed to investigate how social networks are associated with poverty, examining whether mixed social networks reduce the risk of living in poverty. This paper: studied how social networks vary between people of different ethnic groups and financial status;examined whether people with mixed social networks are less likely to be living in poverty; andlooked at regional differences in the relationship between poverty, ethnicity and social networks.
