Abstract
This report presents a new analysis of panel attrition in Understanding Society. The analysis focuses on the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS), a survey that started in 1991 and was included in Understanding Society in wave 2 (2010) in order to increase the temporal scope of the study. The report analyses attrition for the Original Sample, recruited in 1991, the Scottish and Welsh Boost, selected in 1999, and the Northern Ireland Panel Study, which started in 2001. Furthermore, we explore how attrition can affect the sample profile and the sample size for analyses that use some (but not all) the available waves for a given time period.
